DESCRIPTION:Prof. Hervé Rigneault\, Full CNRS Research Director\, Mosaic
group\, Institut Fresnedl\, Marseille\nLabel free nonlinear optical contra
 st mechanisms such as 2photon auto-fluorescence\, harmonic generations\, c
oherent Raman (CARS/SRS) and transient absorption enable molecular imaging
in complex media and show promising applications in biology and medicine
for in vivo investigations. All these contrast mechanisms result from the
interaction of ultra-short laser pulses with matter and require dedicated
implementations. I will review recent developments performed in this field
by our group with applications in biology\, pharmacology and medicine.Bec
ause microscopy is ultimately limited by scattering for deep tissue invest
igations\, I will present our efforts to extend these label free imaging t
echniques into fibered endoscopic tools.\nBio: Hervé Rigneault obtained a
n optical engineering degree from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Physi
que de Marseille in 1991. He obtained his PhD in the field of nonlinear op
tics in 1993 and joined the CNRS in 1994\, working in the field of optical
microcavity and single photon sources. In 2000 he created the group Mosai
c that has been developing optical tools to address life sciences problems
. He has been active in the fields of fluorescence correlation spectroscop
y and nanophotonics to study cell membranes at nanoscale. His current rese
arch topics are in nonlinear imaging of tissues\, coherent Ramanmicroscopy
  and novel endoscope developments.
