DESCRIPTION:Prof. Chet Miller\, University of Houston\n"Discovering Academ
y of Management Discoveries: Publishing in the U.S. Academy’s Newest Jou
rnal"Abstract\nWith increasing ferocity in the 21st century\, a vocal set
of senior management scholars called for a journal that would avoid prevai
ling emphases on theory development and contributions to existing theory.
For these scholars\, a journal with relaxed theory requirements was needed
in order to offset the excesses of our field’s theory emphases. Simulta
neously\, the general membership of the U.S. Academy of Management called
for increased opportunities to publish in Academy journals. Responding to
these two forces\, the Academy created Academy of Management Discoveries.
The first issue of this new journal was published less than one year ago.
To further publicize and to fully explore the mission of the journal\, the
speaker will discuss requirements and nuances associated with publishing
in it. Based on his experiences as a past associate editor for Academy of
Management Journal and a current associate editor for Discoveries\, he wil
l draw comparisons and contrasts across the two journals.Short bio\nSince
