DESCRIPTION:Prof. Hervé Rigneault\, Institut Fresnedl\, Marseille\nLabel
free nonlinear optical contrast mechanisms such as 2photon auto-fluorescen
ce\, harmonic generations\, coherent Raman (CARS/SRS) and transient absorp
tion enable molecular imaging in complex media and show promising applicat
ions in biology and medicine for in vivo investigations. All these contras
t mechanisms result from the interaction of ultra-short laser pulses with
matter and require dedicated implementations.\nI will review recent develo
pments performed in this field by our group with applications in biology\,
pharmacology and medicine.Because microscopy is ultimately limited by sca
ttering for deep tissue investigations\, I will present our efforts to ext
end these label free imaging techniques into fibered endoscopic tools.\nBi
o: Hervé Rigneault obtained an optical engineering degree from the Ecole
Nationale Supérieure de Physique de Marseille in 1991. He obtained his Ph
D in the field of nonlinear optics in 1993 and joined the CNRS in 1994\, w
orking in the field of optical microcavity and single photon sources. In 2
000 he created the group Mosaic that has been developing optical tools to
address life sciences problems.\nHe has been active in the fields of fluor
escence correlation spectroscopy and nanophotonics to study cell membranes
at nanoscale. His current research topics are in nonlinear imaging of tis
sues\, coherent Ramanmicroscopy and novel endoscope developments.
