 et Cie\nThe collapse of the World Trade Center towers represents one of th
 e most dramatic failures of modern structural engineering. One of the most
  exhaustive and expensive failure analyses in history was conducted in the
  mist of speculation\, controversy and conspiracy theories. In parallel\, 
 the world has seen an extraordinary evolution of the super tall building. 
 Seven of the ten tallest buildings in the world have been built after 9/11
 . These not only include the tallest four but only one is not in Asia. Fur
 thermore\, a strong drive towards sustainability has driven tall building 
 design to levels of innovation never seen before. This presentation will e
 xtract from a decade of questioning and innovation ten lessons on what is 
 sustainable infrastructure. José L. Torero is the BRE Trust/ RAEng Profes
 sor of Fire Safety Engineering\, Director of the BRE Centre for Fire Safet
 y Engineering. Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal So
 ciety of Edinburgh\, the 2008 recipient of the Arthur B. Guise Medal by th
 e Society of Fire Protection Engineering and the 2011 Rasbash Medal from t
 he Institution of Fire Engineers (UK) for eminent achievement in the advan
 cement of the science of fire safety. He is the author of a book and more 
 than 500 other technical documents for which he has received multiple awar
 ds. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Fire Safety Journal\, Associate Editor of
  Combustion Science and Technology (2005-2010) and member of the Editorial
  Board of several other fire related publications. He is the vice-Chair of
  the International Association for Fire Safety Science\, chair of the Fire
  Safety working Group of the International Council for Tall Buildings and 
 Urban Habitat and a member of numerous influential committees and standard
 s development bodies. He is a consultant to many private and government or
 ganizations around the world. He is recognized for leading edge research i
 n a broad arrange of subjects associated to Fire Safety and for the develo
 pment of many innovative educational programmes in several countries.
