has hitherto largely escaped large-scale computational analysis\, owing t
o an absence of obvious symbolic encodings. I propose a new computational
study of Western art through the study of human pose\, drawing on the art-
theoretical writings of Warburg and Freedberg. I attempt to draw lessons f
rom the only computational study of pose in art\, and suggest technical im
provements from the field of 3D pose estimation. Finally\, I conclude with
  some concrete research directions.
