DESCRIPTION:Prof. Matthew Fickus\, Air force Institute of Technology\, Ohi
o\, USA\nA tight fusion frame is a finite set of orthogonal projection mat
rices that sum to a scalar multiple of the identity matrix. Tight fusion f
rames are an emerging topic of frame theory\, with applications to encodin
g and distributed processing. We completely characterize the existence of
tight fusion frames in the special case in which all of the projection mat
rices are of equal rank. Our methods are entirely constructive. Though sev
eral basic examples may be constructed using tensor products and orthogona
l complements\, the general construction makes use of two new ideas: the f
irst is a new method for building unit norm tight frames that resembles th
e popular game Tetris\; the second is to properly modulate these Spectral
Tetris frames to produce Gabor fusion frames.\nProf. Fickus' homepage
