DESCRIPTION:Prof. Earl Scime\, West Virginia Univ.\, Morgantown\, USA\nOve
r the past decade\, significant advances in the study of double layers hav
e been achieved through spatial and time resolved\, laser induced fluoresc
ence (LIF) measurements of ion velocity distribution functions.  I will r
eview some highlights of our LIF measurements of ions in double layers and
describe new techniques being developed for LIF measurements of neutrals
in low temperature plasmas. Conventional LIF  and two-photon LIF (TALIF)
measurements of ion and neutral velocity distribution measurements in argo
n\, krypton\, and hydrogen plasmas will be described and compared to elect
rostatic probe measurements and theoretical predictions.
