DESCRIPTION:Dr. Emmeran Le Moal\, University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (Franc
e)\nSEMINAR of the LAUSANNE INTEGRATIVE METABOLISM and NUTRITION ALLIANCE
(LIMNA)\n\nAbstract:\nSkeletal muscle has the remarkable ability to regene
rate following injury. This property is mainly due to a muscle stem cell (
MuSC) population known as satellite cells. Among cell types observed withi
n the injured muscle are macrophages\, described to modulate the regenerat
ive process. This is notably the case of macrophages that sequentially dis
play distinct phenotypes. First\, damage-associated macrophages clean cell
ular debris and release pro-inflammatory mediators that stimulate MuSC pro
liferation. These macrophages then skew their phenotype to restorative mac
rophages that secreted anti-inflammatory cytokines and molecules that supp
ort myogenic cell differentiation and fusion.\n\nIn this seminar\, I will
present new macrophage-derived candidates involved in the control of skele
 tal muscle regeneration.
