DESCRIPTION:Nikos Paragios\, CentraleSupelec/University of Paris-Saclay/In
ria\nComputational vision\, visual computing and biomedical image analysis
have made tremendous progress of the past decade. This is mostly due the
development of efficient learning and inference algorithms which allow bet
ter and richer modeling of visual perception tasks. Hyper-Graph representa
tions are among the most prominent tools to address such perception throug
h the casting of perception as a graph optimization problem.\n\nIn this ta
lk\, we briefly introduce the interest of such representations\, discuss t
heir strength and limitations\, provide appropriate strategies for their i
nference learning and present their application to address a variety of pr
oblems of visual computing.\n\nBio: Nikos Paragios is professor of Applied
Mathematics and Computer Science\, director of the Center for Visual Comp
uting of CentraleSupelec/University of Paris-Saclay\, affiliated scientifi
c leader at Inria and senior fellow of mathematics at the Institut Univers
itaire de France. He is an IEEE Fellow (2011)\, has co-edited four books\,
published more than two hundred papers in the most prestigious journals a
nd conferences of medical imaging and computer vision (DBLP server)\, and
holds twenty five international patents. His work has approx 16\,750 citat
ions according to Google Scholar and his H-number (09/2016) is 61.\n\nHe i
s the Editor in Chief of the Computer Vision and Image Understanding Journ
al and serves as a member of the editorial board for the Medical Image Ana
lysis Journal (MedIA) and the SIAM Journal in Imaging Sciences (SIIMS). He
as served as an associate/area editor/member of the editorial board for t
he IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI)\,
the Computer Vision and Image Understanding Journal (CVIU)\, the Internat
ional Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV) and the Journal of Mathematical Im
aging and Vision (JMIV) while he was one of the program chairs of the 11th
European Conference in Computer Vision (ECCV'10\, Heraklion\, Crete)\, is
the program chair of the upcoming IEEE International Conference in Comput
er Vision (ICCV) 2019 edition (Seoul) and serves regularly at the conferen
ce boards of the most prestigious events of his fields (ICCV\, CVPR\, ECCV
\, MICCAI). Professor Paragios is member of the scientific council of SAFR
AN conglomerate and of the University of Paris-Descartes. His research int
erests are in the area of computer vision\, biomedical image analysis and
 machine learning/optimization.
