DESCRIPTION:Prof. Rodolphe Sepulchre\, University of Liège\nThis talk wil
l survey old and recent advances in three closely related problems. Coordi
nation is the distributed control of a collective task. Synchronization is
the phase coordination of a collective rhythm. Consensus is the ultimate
agreement reached through local but spreading exchange of information. We
show some benefits of a unifying geometric approach to the three problems
by considering the generalization of the classical consensus problem to st
ate-space that are not vector spaces but manifolds. We highlight the numer
ous applications of consensus on manifolds and discuss some open problems
in this rich area of dynamics and control. \n Prof. Sepulchre's homepage
