DESCRIPTION:Prof. Jouko Korppi-Tommola\nAfter light excitation ruthenium b
ipyridyl complexes in solution or attached to semiconductor surface may ad
opt varying relaxation channels.\nSinglet excitation may lead to intersyst
em crossing\, conformational changes\, electron injection or dissociation.
Typical feature of the complexes is fast intersystem crossing that provid
es a competing relaxation channel to singlet reactions\, injection or diss
ociation. Spin forbidden absorption and breaking of ligand symmetry may oc
cur.\nDissociation was found to be followed by slower processes\, conforma
tional change\, solvent attachment and cooling. Several ultrafast techniqu
es were used to explore these phenomena\, in UV\, vis and mid-IR regions.
