 remum seeking control and its application to chemical and \nbiochemical sy
 stems will be presented. Two important classes of approaches are considere
 d: \n(i) perturbation based methods\, for which an excitation dither signa
 l is added to the input \nand the gradient is forced to zero\, and (ii) mo
 del-based methods\, for which a dynamical \nmodel with unknown parameters 
 is typically used. Advantages and drawbacks of both \napproaches will be d
 iscussed\, and results will be illustrated through examples\, such as the 
 \nexample of a bioreactor with two different scenarios.
