DESCRIPTION:Olivier Rivoire\nTo study quantitatively and at a molecular
level how the diversity of a population relates to its capacity to respon
d to selection\, we built several minimal antibody libraries and selecte
d them in vitro to bind to specific targets. I will present our analysi
s of these experiments\, which combine antibody phage display with high-
throughput sequencing. In particular\, I will show how an elementary prob
abilistic model based on extreme value theory accounts for the diversity o
f results that we obtain. Our work has several potential implications for
designing synthetic protein libraries\, for estimating the density of func
tional biomolecules in sequence space\, for characterizing diversity in na
tural populations and for experimentally investigating the concept of "evo
 lvability ».
