 ayer is of main importance in several environmental problems : urban air q
 uality associated with traffic and industrial emissions\, accidental relea
 ses of toxic materials due to industrial activity or transport of hazardou
 s materials\, deliberate releases due to terrorist attacks. The atmospheri
 c group of the Ecole Centrale de Lyon works on different subjects relative
  to atmospheric boundary layer :\n•	Flow and dispersion around buildi
 ngs or groups of buildings\, particularly in the context of urban areas\n
 •	Concentration fluctuations for continuous and instantaneous releases\n
 •	Stable and convective boundary layer\n\nThese processes are studied us
 ing an association of theoretical\, experimental (atmospheric wind tunnel)
  and numerical approaches. The group has also developed some operational m
 odels used in several cities to study urban air quality. The presentation 
 will give an overview of these different research activities.
