DESCRIPTION:Prof. Rémi Carminati\, Institut Langevin\, ESPCI Paris\, Pari
 s\, France\n\nhttps://www.institut-langevin.espci.fr/remi_carminati\nLight
scattering and transport in disordered media has been extensively studied
. On the fundamental side\, the study of light fluctuations and correlatio
ns (speckles) reveals essential features in mesoscopic physics. On the app
lied side\, methods and techniques have been developed for sensing and ima
ging in complex media. In this talk we will review recent results in coher
ent light scattering from complex materials in which unexpected behaviours
show up. We will describe non-‐universal features in speckle patterns
generated by disordered metallic films producing spatially localized plas
mon modes [1\,2]\, or by volume scattering in the Anderson localization re
gime [3]. In the context of diffusive transport through thick scattering m
edia\, we will show that a spatial correlation between the reflected and t
ransmitted speckle patterns persists even for large optically thicknesses
materials\, a result that has implications for the control of wave transmi
ssion through complex media [4]. We will finally address the influence of
correlations in the disorder on the photonic properties. We will show that
dense and transparent materials can be designed\, at densities for which
a fully disordered material would be opaque due to multiple scattering [5]
. These results bring new perspectives for the design of disordered materi
als with specific photonic properties\, and for the control of light trans
port in complex media. [1] R. Carminati et al.\, Surf. Sci. Rep. 70\, 1 (2
