DESCRIPTION:Dr Christopher Dye\nRecognizing that tuberculosis is still the
  biggest cause of human death from a curable infection\, the international
  health community has set ambitious targets for control. One target is to 
 eliminate TB by 2050\, which means cutting the number of new cases arising
  each year to less than 1 per million population. This talk will illustrat
 e the successes and failures of 20th century TB control\, describe the sca
 le of the task facing national TB control programmes now\, and assess the 
 biological\, technological\, and social obstacles to removing TB as a thre
 at to public health.
