 ionship with glucocorticoids either maintaining normal function in the bas
 al state or responding in short\, medium and long time domains to increase
 d levels of hormone during acute or chronic stress.It is now becoming appa
 rent that thee is a much more dynamic interaction taking place even during
  basal states\,with free glucocorticoid levels in the brain showing massiv
 e ultradian variation at about hourly intervals.I shall discuss the origin
  of these rhythms and their importance for for normal-and abnormal- transc
 riptional\,cognitive and emotional responses both in rodents and in man.\n
