DESCRIPTION:Dr Amir Moradi\, Ruhr-Universität Bochum\, Germany\nAbstract
\nSide-channel analysis and fault-injection attacks are known as major thr
eats to any cryptographic implementation. Hardening cryptographic implemen
tations with appropriate countermeasures is thus essential before they are
deployed in the wild. However\, countermeasures for both threats are of c
ompletely different nature: Side-channel analysis is mitigated by techniqu
es that hide or mask key-dependent information while resistance against fa
ult-injection attacks can be achieved by redundancy in the computation for
immediate error detection. Since already the integration of any single co
untermeasure in cryptographic hardware comes with significant costs in ter
ms of performance and area\, a combination of multiple countermeasures is
expensive and often associated with undesired side effects. In this talk\,
a countermeasure for cryptographic hardware implementations is introduced
that combines the concept of a provably-secure masking scheme (i.e.\, thr
eshold implementation) with an error detecting approach against fault inje
ction.\n\nBio:\nAmir Moradi received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in comput
er engineering from Sharif University of Technology\, Tehran\, Iran\, in 2
 004 and 2008 respectively. Afterwards\, till 2015 he worked as a Post-Doct
oral researcher at the chair for Embedded Security\, Ruhr Universität Boc
hum\, Germany. Since 2016\, after obtaining the Habilitation degree\, he h
as become a senior researcher and faculty member at the faculty of electri
cal engineering and information technology at Ruhr University Bochum. His
current research interests include physical security of embedded systems\,
passive side-channel analysis attacks\, and the corresponding countermeas
ures. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and conferen
ce papers\, in both destructive and constructive aspects of side-channel a
nalysis. He also served as Program Committee Member (and the Chair) of sev
eral security- and cryptography-related conferences and workshops.   \n
