DESCRIPTION:Andreas Schmocker\nWe are pleased to announce and cordially in
vite you to our monthly EPFL Photonics Chapter (EPC) 'Pizza-optics-beer' (
POB) seminar. This month we will have the pleasure to host Andreas Schmock
er  who will give us some insights in his field of expertise.\n\nHis pres
entation is entitled:\n\n \n\n“In-situ photopolymerized and monitored s
pinal and brain implant”.\n\n \n\nAndreas and us\, we would be happy to
see you there!\nFor organizational purposes (if you want to eat pizza!)\,
please confirm your participation using the following Doodle.\n\n \n\nAb
stract:\n\nCurrently implants or tissue replacements are inserted either a
s a whole implant or by injecting a liquid which polymerizes to form a sol
id implant at the appropriate location. This is either highly invasive or
not controllable. We developed a tool to perform such surgeries in a minim
ally invasive and controllable way. It combines photopolymerization and fl
uorescence spectroscopy in a surgical apparatus. The device was successful
ly tested in-vitro to replace the core of intervertebral discs where it fu
lfilled the functionality of the tissue over more than 0.5 million loading
cycles. Here we report on results to replace brain tissue.\n\n
