  most well-known economist in the field of the economics of science and of
  the academic research in the United States. She has published a lot of em
 pirical work which has given her a worldwide reputation and has just finis
 hed a major book: How Economics Shapes Science? (Harvard University Press\
 , January 2012).\n\nHer seminar will handle some of the problems that acad
 emic research in the US face today and which could affect its productivity
  and quality in the future. Potential problems such as - bigger risk avers
 ion from the researchers\; growing inequalities (salary wise) within the a
 cademic system\; the narrowing of the labor market for post-docs wishing t
 o pursue an academic career – will be developed by Paula Stephan.
