DESCRIPTION:David Angeli\, Imperial College London\nEconomic Model Predict
ive Control (EMPC) is a variant of standard MPC that allows taking directl
y into account the economics of the system in the design of a controller.
In this respect it departs from classical MPC where optimization is used t
o minimize some kind of distance of the system’s state towards a desired
set-point or reference signal. We will review some of the main ideas behi
nd the approach and results which were obtained concerning recursive feasi
bility\, performance and stability. We will then move on to see how the ap
proach can be extended to cope with time-varying set-ups.\n \nBio: David
Angeli was born in Siena\, Italy\, in 1971. He received the B.S. degree in
Computer Science Engineering and the Ph.D. in Control Theory from Univers
 ity of Florence\, Florence\, Italy\, in 1996 and 2000\, respectively. Sinc
e 2000 he was an Assistant and Associate Professor (2005) with the Departm
ent of Systems and Computer Science\, University of Florence. He was a vis
 iting Professor with I.N.R.I.A de Rocquencourt\, Paris\, France\, in 2007.
\n\nIn 2008 he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineer
ing of Imperial College London as a Senior Lecturer. He is currently a Rea
der in Nonlinear Control and the Director of the MSc in Control Systems. H
e has been a Fellow of the IEEE since 2015. He has authored more than 80 j
ournal papers in the areas of stability of nonlinear systems\, dynamical s
ystems\, control of constrained systems\, and chemical reaction networks.
