DESCRIPTION:Prof. Sri Sritharan\nWith funding from the Network for Earthqu
 ake Engineering Simulation Research (NEESR) program of the National Scienc
 e Foundation\, seismic behavior of rectangular cast-in place concrete wall
 s and an equivalent precast wall system has been studied. In addition\, co
 mplex behavior of T-shaped concrete walls subjected to multi-directional l
 oads has been investigated. The rectangular cast-in-place walls has focuse
 d on the influence that the anchorage of the wall longitudinal reinforceme
 nt into the footing has on the in-plane response concrete walls while the 
 precast system was motivated to produce a low-damage self-centering wall o
 ption with superior seismic response to that observed for the cast-in-plac
 e walls. The T-walls were used to investigate their complex seismic behavi
 or and the ability to predict their behavior under multi-directional loads
 . All of the investigations included large-scale tests and advanced analyt
 ical simulation based on fiber-based or equivalent finite element models.\
 n\nThe presentation will focus on the motivation for the study\, lessons l
 earned\, advancements made to simulation capabilities\, and recommendation
 s for design and analysis. It will be concluded with some details of an on
 going NEESR research on precast concrete walls.\n\nBio: Dr. Sri Sritharan 
 is the Wilson Professor of Engineering and Associate Chair of the Departme
 nt of Civil\, Construction and Environmental Engineering at Iowa State Uni
 versity. Sri’s research expertise includes earthquake-resistant design o
 f structures\, precast structural systems\, soil-foundation-structure inte
 raction and Ultrahigh Performance Concrete. Sri has engaged in NEES resear
 ch since its inception and an active member of several professional societ
 ies. He is the current chair of the American Concrete Institute Committee 
 on Earthquake-Resistant Concrete Bridges and serves on PCI’s Research an
 d Development and Piling committees. Sri has won several awards including 
 PCI’s Young Educator Achievement Award and Martin P. Korn award as well 
 as the Best IT Innovation award from NEES.
