 all metal ITER like first wall at JET has profoundly affected the way JET 
 can be operated. Operating with this beryllium and tungsten wall is signif
 icantly more difficult than operating with a carbon wall. Issues which hav
 e to be handled are\; accumulation of metallic impurities in the plasma co
 re\, the risk of melting plasma facing metal components\, increased disrup
 tion forces etc.  In addition several concerns specifically associated wi
 th operation with either pure tritium or mixed deuterium-tritium plasma al
 so have to be considered.  The presentation will describe these new chall
 enges and the real time control schemes which have been or are being devel
 oped to help meeting them.\n
