DESCRIPTION:Exploring Edges & Beyond Colloquium\n11-14 July 2017\, Lausann
 e\, Switzerland - EPFL\nDigital Humanities\, Artistic and Architecture Res
 earch\, Critical Technical Practice\n\nNew forms of research\, methods\, k
nowledge\nResearch in applied and interdisciplinary areas often pus
h beyond methodological and epistemological notions as articulated in esta
blished scientific disciplines - it’s therefore difficult to plac
e these research approaches within the framework of standardised scientif
ic methods. In order to reflect on the relation between established
emerging and interdisciplinary fields of research\, we will encourage new
encounters by bringing together a broad spectrum of diverging and sometim
es even conflicting disciplines\, namely engineering\, computer and natura
l sciences\, architecture and artistic researchers.    Presently\, Digi
tal Humanities for example sees itself as contributing to the re
search community of the Digital as well as the Humanities\, by askin
g new\, critical questions of existing algorithms and technical practices
Furthermore\, fields such as art and architecture understand their researc
h as open to a variety of approaches and their findings are often consider
ed to make contributions to multiple different areas\, ranging from the te
chnical - to the social sciences.   Against this background we would
like to discuss the following questions: What is the status of
knowledge produced in these fields\; and how might we build bridges
between them and established academic disciplines? At present\, it is
not yet clear how knowledge created in the new and interdisciplinary
fields can feed back into technical research communities.    This
summer school therefore aims to bring together PhD students and
researchers in new forms of  scientific research with the research
communities in art and architecture - in particular\, those artis
tic and architectural researchers that engage with experimental-techni
cal development as part of their work.    Attendees will be exp
ected to be currently pursuing their own research projects\, and
their experiences from them will contribute to the School.\n\nAll informat
ion and Registration\nPlease click here to find the complete description o
