DESCRIPTION:Dr. Tanja Wranik\, work and organizational psychologist FSP\,
business and leadership coach\, and consultant\nDescription and objectives
\nProfessional careers are partially based on technical\, scientific\, and
professional skills (“what you know”) and partially on social network
s and professional networks (“who you know”). However\, many young pro
fessionals are surprised to discover that “who you know” is often much
more important than “what you know” in determining interesting job of
fers and careers. This is especially true for researchers and academics\,
who have spent much of their young lives perfecting their technical and sc
ientific skills and to be the best in their schools\, universities\, and P
hD programs\, and women\, who have internalized\ncounterproductive stereot
ypes.\n\nApproach\nThis workshop is designed to give doctoral and postdoct
oral students the tools and techniques to develop\, maintain\, and harness
professional networks. In particular\, we will examine general principles
concerning network building and how cultural differences in communication
and collaboration may influence best\npractices and expectations in socia
l relationships in different contexts.\n\nTarget audience\nFemale PhD stud
 ents & Postdocs\n_________________________________________________________

course begins:  www.unifr.ch/regard\n\nThe REGARD programme is addressed
to young female academics of the next generation and for women professors
of the universities of French-speaking Switzerland\, HES-SO and EPFL. The
REGARD programme is organized by the gender equality offices those institu
tions.\n\nThe objective of the REGARD program is to develop skills and off
er concrete tools for career management and supervision. These workshops a
lso create spaces for discussion and exchange of experiences among researc
hers. They also aim to increase awareness of gender equality issues in aca
 demic careers.
