DESCRIPTION:Dr. Stefano Frixione\nLab. de physique des particules et de co
 smologie\, EPFL\nTheory Division\, CERN\nAn important ingredient in a succ
essful physics programme at the LHC is the systematic use of precise comp
utations\, which help reduce the theoretical bias on experimental analyse
s\, thanks to the possibility of giving reliable predictions with a mini
mal amount of tuning on real data. Very significant progress has been mad
e in the past few years\, that allowed perturbative computations to be br
oadened in scope and increased in accuracy. I shall review the ideas behi
nd this progress\, illustrate some of the technical obstacles which have
been cleared\, and discuss future prospects.
