DESCRIPTION:Prof. Michel Campillo\nWe use the ambient noise to image the g
 eological structures and to monitor slight changes in the elastic properti
 es of the crust. This recently developed technique takes advantage of the 
 huge quantity of data provided by continuous digital seismic networks. We 
 discuss the principle of the method and show its applications for imaging 
 at different scales. We present examples of temporal changes of seismic sp
 eeds associated with volcanic eruptions\, earthquakes and transient deform
 ation ('creep') at depth. We discuss the possible origins of these changes
 .\n\nBio: Dr. Michel Campillo is distinguished Professor (Professor ‘Cla
 sse Exceptionnelle’) at Université Joseph Fourier\, Grenoble and senior
  fellow of ’Institut Universitaire de France’. He is head of research 
 group “Ondes et Structures” of ISTerre (since 2004). His present resea
 rch is related to the projects: Whisper - ERC Advanced grant : Towards con
 tinuous monitoring of the continuously changing Earth and G-GAP - ANR proj
 ect : New perspectives on seismic hazard in subduction zones: Episodic Tre
 mors and Slip\, passive monitoring\, tectonics and strong motion scenarios
 . He is member of the board of Université Joseph Fourier\, of the Board o
 f Directors of the Seismological Society of America and of the Comittee fo
 r Ethics of CNRS . He is the author of about 140 publications in internati
 onal peer-reviewed journals (h=36 according to ISI).
