DESCRIPTION:Piotr Achinger (Institute of Mathematics Polish Academy of Sci
 ences)\nThe celebrated proof of the Hartshorne conjecture by Shigefumi Mor
 i\nallowed for the study of the geometry of higher dimensional varieties\n
 through the analysis of deformations of rational curves. One of the\nmany 
 applications of Mori's results was Lazarsfeld's positive answer\nto the co
 njecture of Remmert and Van de Ven which states that the only\nsmooth vari
 ety that the projective space can map surjectively onto is\nthe projective
  space itself. Motivated by this result\, a similar\nproblem has been cons
 idered for other kinds of varieties such as\nabelian varieties (Demailly-H
 wang-Mok-Peternell) or toric varieties\n(Occhetta-Wiśniewski). In my talk
 \, I would like to present a\ncompletely new perspective on the problem co
 ming from the study of\nFrobenius lifts in positive characteristic. This i
 s based on a joint\nproject with Jakub Witaszek and Maciej Zdanowicz.
