DESCRIPTION:Prof. Xi Zhang\, Department of Chemistry\, Tsinghua University
\nIn this presentation\, I will talk about how to employ supramolecular ch
emistry for modulating activity of free radicals. In case that the activit
y of free radicals is decreased significantly through supramolecular strat
egy\, the deactivated free radicals can be used for near-infrared photo-th
ermal materials. When the activity of free radicals is increased significa
ntly through supramolecular strategy\, it can accelerate reactions with fr
ee radicals as intermediate\, thus providing a new horizon of supramolecul
ar catalysis.\n\nBio: Prof. Zhang\, received his B.S. degree (1986) and Ph
 .D (1992) in the Department of Chemistry\, Jilin University. As a joint-tr
aining Ph.D student\, he worked with Prof. Helmut Ringsdorf\, University o
 f Mainz\, Germany\, between 1991 and 1992. He became a full professor of J
ilin University in 1994. Since 2003\, he is a full professor of the Depart
ment of Chemistry\, Tsinghua University. Currently\, he is appointed as De
partment Chair. In the mean time\, he serves as Senior Editor of Langmuir
and Editorial Board Members of several scientific journals\, including Che
mical Communications\, ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces. He has been a
member of Chinese Academy of Sciences since 2007. His research interests
are focused on supramolecular assembly and polymer thin films\, single mol
 ecular force spectroscopy of polymers.\n
