DESCRIPTION:Krzysztof Burdzy\nEach of the four lectures will be devoted to
a different aspect of reflections. I will try to show the breadth of dire
ctions in this unofficial field of mathematics.\nIn the first lecture\, I
will talk about obliquely reflected Brownian motion in fractal domains.Tim
e permitting\, I will also discuss discrete approximations of reflected Br
ownian motion in fractal domains.\nThe second lecture will be devoted to d
iscrete approximations of random reflectors. Philosophically speaking\, th
is topic is similar to pseudo-random number generators which try to emulat
e randomness using deterministic algorithms.\nThe third lecture will be on
Brownian motion reflected on a moving boundary. This will be the first of
the two lectures showing the interplay between reflected processes and PD
E's.\nThe fourth and final lecture will be on applications of couplings of
reflected Brownian motions to the "hot spots" conjecture in PDE's.\nThe t
alks will be based on joint research with too many collaborators to be men
tioned here (I will mention them in the lectures).
