DESCRIPTION:Launched in November 2017\, this new initiative by the Volkswa
 gen Stiftung supports novel project constellations and interdisciplinary c
 ooperations in the social sciences and the engineering sciences\; the inte
 gration of the humanities is welcome. Against the background of the curren
 t and emerging developments in the field of Artificial Intelligence\, the 
 Foundation wishes to support projects dealing with the development of new 
 perspectives and insights with a view to shaping the future of society as 
 well as technology. The Foundation considers only new proposals that have 
 not been submitted to other funding organizations.\n \nWho can apply\n\n	
 Postdoctoral researchers and Professors at all career levels who are emplo
 yed by a university or research institute.\n	The Consortium \n	\n		Can hav
 e up to 5 working groups.\n		Must have expertise in engineering\, social s
 ciences and/or humanities.\n		Researchers outside of Germany can participa
 te.   \n		The institution in Germany must submit the application.\n	\n	\
 n\n \nFunding\n\n\n	Funding covers all project-related costs (including t
 he PI’s salary if not permanent). Overheads are NOT funded.\n	Applicants
  can apply to a one-year Planning Grant upfront or directly to a longer-te
 rm Full Grant.\n	\n		PLANNING GRANT: € 150K for 9-12 months to enable:\n
 	\n	\n\n\n\n	the composition of an interdisciplinary project team\,\n	the 
 identification of a connecting topic\, and\n	the preparation of a Full Gra
 nt proposal.\n	\n		FULL GRANT: up to € 1.5M for up to 4 years.\n	\n	\n\n
  \nDeadline: 5 July 2018 and 4 July 2019 (annual call)\nAn interview is f
 oreseen for Full Grant applicants in mid-October.\n \nApplication:\n\n\n
