DESCRIPTION:Prof. Francesco Stellacci\,\nConstellium Chair\, EPFL\nChE-605
  - Highlights in Energy Research seminar series\nA bird eye view of any fo
lded protein shows a complex surface composed of hydrophobic and hydrophil
ic patches closely packed. To date little is known on the fundamental prop
erties that such packing determines. In this talk I will present my group
’s endeavours into the synthesis\, characterization\, and understanding
of a family of nanomaterials (mixed monolayer protected nanoparticles) tha
t possess a surface coexistence of patches of opposite hydrophilicity rese
mbling that present on folded protein. Attention will be placed in describ
ing approach we have developed to characterise such surfaces and possible
extension of these approached to characterise similar surfaces. I will sho
w that these materials are ideal model compound to uncover the basic prope
rties that such coexistence determines at the solid liquid interface\, and
will conclude with example of application of these nanoparticles when use
d as mimic of biological entities.\n\nThe seminar can also be followed rem
otely by joining the online Cisco WebEx meeting (connection possible 15 mi
nutes before the talk).\nSee here the documentation how to install the Cis
co WebEx add-on on your computer.\nIn case of problem\, you can contact ou
