DESCRIPTION:Dr. Alok Choudhary\, Sheffield University\nKnowledge sharing i
s a major challenge for collaborative networks and is essential to improve
the productivity and quality of decisions taken by both collaborative net
works and their member organisations. A critical aspect of effective knowl
edge sharing within virtual organizations (VOs) is the identification of t
he most appropriate knowledge for reuse or exploitation in a particular co
ntext\, as this requires efficient tools and mechanisms for its identifica
tion\, sharing or transfer. Additionally\, partners need to be aware of wh
en knowledge needs to be shared\, the implications of doing so and when th
eir decisions are likely to affect other partners within the collaboration
. Therefore\, tools and methods are needed for identification\, acquisitio
n\, maintenance and evolution of knowledge and to support effective knowle
dge sharing which includes awareness of possible consequences of actions a
nd increased awareness of other partner’s needs during the collaboration
. This seminar discusses the evolution of Moderator Services from first ap
plication in the MOSES research project to its current application in SYNE
RGY research project as collaboration moderator services (CMS) funded by E
uropean commission. A moderator is a specialist software system that suppo
rts collaborative working by raising awareness of the priorities and requi
rements of other contributors. We proposed Knowledge discOvery And daTa mi
ning inteGrated (KOATING) framework for Moderators to enable them to conti
nuously learn from the operational databases of the company and semi-autom
atically update their knowledge about team members.
