DESCRIPTION:Dr. Alok Choudhary is a Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chai
n Management at the Management School of the University of Sheffield. He i
s also acting as a key member for the Logistics and Supply Chain Research
Centre and leading a MSC Programme on Masters in Logistics and Supply Chai
n Management.  In recent years\, he has contributed to several research p
rojects funded by European Commission (FP7)\, EPSRC\, IMCRC and industries
including Rolls-Royce\, AstraZeneca\, Defence Technology Centre (UK) and
TATA Motors Ltd (INDIA) on topics related to Green Logistics and Supply Ch
ain\, knowledge management (particularly knowledge discovery). He has cons
ulting experience with McKinsey & Company.\nKnowledge sharing is a major c
hallenge for collaborative networks and is essential to improve the produc
tivity and quality of decisions taken by both collaborative networks and t
heir member organisations. A critical aspect of effective knowledge sharin
g within virtual organizations (VOs) is the identification of the most app
ropriate knowledge for reuse or exploitation in a particular context\, as
this requires efficient tools and mechanisms for its identification\, shar
ing or transfer. Additionally\, partners need to be aware of when knowledg
e needs to be shared\, the implications of doing so and when their decisio
ns are likely to affect other partners within the collaboration. Therefore
\, tools and methods are needed for identification\, acquisition\, mainten
ance and evolution of knowledge and to support effective knowledge sharing
which includes awareness of possible consequences of actions and increase
d awareness of other partner’s needs during the collaboration. This semi
nar discusses the evolution of Moderator Services from first application i
n the MOSES research project to its current application in SYNERGY researc
h project as collaboration moderator services (CMS) funded by European com
mission. A moderator is a specialist software system that supports collabo
rative working by raising awareness of the priorities and requirements of
other contributors. We proposed Knowledge discOvery And daTa mining inteGr
ated (KOATING) framework for Moderators to enable them to continuously lea
rn from the operational databases of the company and semi-automatically up
date their knowledge about team members. This seminar will further discuss
how KOATING framework can:\n• Be used to support knowledge based collab
oration by extracting useful knowledge from the past project reports using
a case study from construction industry.\n• Raise awareness of business
opportunity and possible collaborative between the members of the collabo
rative network using techniques from text mining using a case study.
