DESCRIPTION:Dr Tommaso Lotti\, Department of Civil and Environmental Engin
eering (DICEA)\, University of Florence\, IT\n\nDr. Ing. Tommaso Lotti is
currently a researcher and lecturer at the University of Florence (Italy).
He got two PhDs in Environmental Engineering with focus on wastewater tre
atment processes\, both in Italy and in The Netherlands. Recently he has b
een H2020-MSCA Individual Fellowship at Politecnico di Milano (Italy). He
has been awarded for his breakthrough contributions in wastewater treatmen
t processes using the completely autotrophic nitrogen removal process (Jaa
p van der Graaf award 2014\; Waternet Watercycle Innovation Award 2017) re
sulting also in filing of two US and European patents. His current researc
h interest range from the development of bioprocesses with granular sludge
to the recovery of valuable products from excess sludge. He is associate
founder of the first international task group for the study of extracellul
ar polymeric substances (EPS) extracted from bacterial aggregates. \nAbst
ract:\nAerobic granular sludge process is taken as successful example of m
icrobial community engineering and as potential case study for the develop
ment of wastewater treatment facilities towards biorefineries. The seminar
will be framed into the historical and technological path allowing and st
imulating innovation in the wastewater sector.
