DESCRIPTION:Dr Dusan Licina\, tenure track assistant professor\, Smart Liv
ing Lab\, Fribourg \nHe is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Indoor E
nvironmental Quality at the School for Architecture\, Civil\, and Environm
ental Engineering (ENAC) at EPFL. He leads the new smart living lab's rese
arch group Human-Oriented Built Environment Lab (HOBEL) in Fribourg since
1 June 2018. Before moving to Switzerland\, Dusan completed with postdocto
ral work at University of California Berkeley\, and before that\, a joint
PhD degree at the National University of Singapore and Technical Universit
y of Denmark. He specializes in air quality engineering\, focusing on sour
ces and transport of air pollutants in buildings\, human exposure assessme
nt\, and optimization of building ventilation systems with an aim to impro
ve air quality. Dusan is passionate about raising awareness about the air
quality issues worldwide and developing buildings of the future that are n
ot only energy efficient\, but that also contribute to “Michelin Star”
indoor environmental quality.\nAbstract:\nBuildings represent habitats fo
r various airborne pollutants that have direct or indirect effects on the
quality of our living spaces\, health\, and well-being. As we spend most o
f our time in buildings\, understanding sources and composition of indoor
air pollutants is fundamental for interpreting the health risks and for de
veloping improved building control measures to mitigate human exposure.\nH
umans have been identified as strong contributors of airborne particles an
d bioaerosols in indoor spaces\, through their activities and continuous r
elease of abiotic and biological material from skin and clothing. In this
lecture\, a state-of-the-art knowledge will be presented on how human-asso
ciated emissions of particles and bioaerosols contribute to indoor air com
position and to resulting inhalation exposures.
