DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
 gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Amyotrophic Lat
 eral Sclerosis (ALS) Research Program Therapeutic Development Award. This 
 Award will support research ranging from validation of therapeutic leads t
 o Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling studies. The proposed studies ar
 e expected to be empirical in nature and product-driven. Applicants with l
 imited ALS experience are strongly encouraged to collaborate with those ha
 ving substantial expertise in ALS research and/or ALS model systems. Valid
 ation of treatment approaches in appropriately powered and controlled stud
 ies using biological correlates of disease activity and progression in pre
 -existing\, de-identified human specimens from well-characterized patient 
 cohorts is encouraged.\n \nFunding: Maximum USD $1’250’000\n \nEligi
 bility: Applicants from international organizations or institutions are el
 igible to apply\, and there are no citizenship restrictions. Applicants mu
 st be independent investigators\, but can come from any academic level.\n
