DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
 gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Amyotrophic Lat
 eral Sclerosis (ALS) Research Program Therapeutic Idea Award. This Award w
 ill promote new ideas aimed at drug or treatment discovery that are still 
 in the early stages of development. Development and/or modification of pre
 clinical model systems or the application of high-throughput screens to de
 fine or assess lead compounds for ALS treatment are of interest. Developme
 nt of methods to adequately measure target binding and proximal downstream
  effects (target engagement) and the potential for undesirable activities 
 at related but unintended targets (selectivity) are also encouraged. All p
 roposed research projects should include a well-formulated\, testable hypo
 thesis based on strong scientific rationale that holds translational poten
 tial to improve ALS treatment and/or advance a novel treatment modality.\n
  \nFunding: Maximum USD $500’000\n \nEligibility: Applicants from inte
 rnational organizations or institutions are eligible to apply\, and there 
 are no citizenship restrictions. Applicants must be independent investigat
 ors\, but can come from any academic level.\n \nHow to Apply: Pre-applica
 tions are submitted through the eBRAP platform. They should contain contac
 t information\, a list of collaborators and key personnel\, a preproposal 
 narrative\, and supporting documentation as suggested on the platform. Ful
 l applications (by invitation) will be made via a Grants.gov workspace. Fu
