DESCRIPTION:Dr. Anna Llordés Gil\,\nCIC Energigune\, Solid Electrolyte Gr
 oup\, Vitoria\, Spain\nIkerbasque\, Basque Foundation of Science\, Bilbao\
 , Spain\nChE-605 - Highlights in Energy Research seminar series\nSolid-sta
te Li metal batteries hold the promise to boost the performance of convent
ional Li-ion battery technologies\; being capable of storing more energy a
s well as being safe from combustion. However\, replacing the ubiquitous l
iquid electrolyte in a Li-ion battery\, by a solid electrolyte is great sc
ientific challenge. The poor contact and the highly resistive interfaces b
etween the solid electrolyte and the solid electrodes are a major limitati
on for practical application.\nThis presentation will report on the develo
pment and prospective solutions of solid-state Li metal batteries. First\,
I will focus on Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) garnet electrolyte [1]\, discussing t
he interfacial limits with Li metal anode leading to unexpected short-circ
uit and cell failure [2]. Then\, a promising alternative to full ceramic e
lectrolytes will be proposed based on elastic polymer-ceramic composite me
mbranes. This combination of hard-soft electrolyte materials is found to g
reatly enhance the interfacial stability and electrodeposition properties
with Li metal anode\, offering new opportunities for application in solid-
 state batteries.\n \n[1] L. Buannic\, B. Orayech\, J. M. Lopez del Amo\,
