CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Page Family a
re launching the "Universal Influenza Vaccine Development Grand Challenge"
during the centenary year of the 1918 flu pandemic. The goal of this Gran
d Challenge is to identify novel\, transformative concepts that will lead
to development of universal influenza vaccines offering protection from mo
rbidity and mortality caused by all subtypes of circulating and emerging (
drifted and shifted) Influenza A subtype viruses and Influenza B lineage v
iruses for at least three to five years. It is envisaged that such a unive
rsal influenza vaccine would address the threat from both seasonal and pan
demic influenza\, thus alleviating the need for annual seasonal influenza
vaccination campaigns\, averting significant global morbidity and mortalit
y\, and better preparing the world for the next influenza pandemic.\n \nF
unding: Pilot awards up to USD $2 million\n \nDuration: Expected duration
of 2 years. The goal is to develop universal influenza vaccines that are
ready to start clinical trials by 2021.\n \nEligibility: Grand Challenges
are open to both foreign and domestic organizations\, including non-profi
 t organizations\, for-profit companies\, international organizations\, gov
ernment agencies and academic institutions.\n \nHow to Apply: Applicants
should first submit a letter of interest (LOI) detailing their research id
ea. The LOI should highlight the goals\, study design\, investigator capab
ilities\, and budget for the project. The most promising applicants will t
hen be invited to submit a full proposal.\n \nApplication Deadline: LOI d
 ue 22 June 2018\, 11:30 am PST (20:30 CEST)\n \nFurther information\n\n	M
