DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Lunch Cancer Re
search Program (LCRP) for 2018. The Investigator-Initiated Translational R
esearch Award supports translational research that will develop promising
ideas in lung cancer into clinical applications.\n \nObservations that dr
ive a research idea may originate from a laboratory discovery\, population
-based studies\, or a clinician’s firsthand knowledge of patient care. T
he ultimate goal of translational research is to move a concept or observa
tion forward into clinical application.\n \nPreliminary data to support t
he feasibility of the research hypotheses and research approaches are requ
ired\; however\, these data do not necessarily need to be derived from stu
dies of lung cancer.\n \nThe LCRP seeks to support research that is relev
ant to the healthcare needs of military Service members\, Veterans\, and t
heir families. Military relevance will be considered in determining releva
nce to the mission of the FY18 LCRP during programmatic review.\n \nFundi
