DESCRIPTION:In the frame of the Strategic Japanese-Swiss Science and Techn
 ology Programme (SJSSTP)\, the SNSF - mandated by the Swiss State Secretar
 iat for Education\, Research and Innovation (SERI) - and the Japan Society
  for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) launch a second call for proposals to
  fund joint research projects (JRPs) in the thematic areas of Mathematics\
 , Natural and Engineering Sciences. Grants are meant to promote ambitious 
 collaborative projects proposing innovative approaches and involving at le
 ast one main applicant based in Switzerland and one based in Japan. Each a
 pplicant may only apply for one project. Eight to ten projects can be fina
 nced.\n \nProposals must contain two separate budgets. The SNSF will cove
 r the costs for the Swiss part and the JSPS for the Japanese part. The eli
 gible costs covered by SNSF are: equipment\, research funds needed to carr
 y out the project (travel costs\, room and board costs\, field expenses\, 
 expendable items\,…)\, salaries with social charges (three years of a Ph
 D or two years of a postdoc)\, costs for granting access to research data 
 (up to CHF 10\,000)\, and visiting costs to Japan. On the Japanese side\, 
 eligible costs are research expenses (equipment costs\, travel costs and e
 mployee salaries) and visiting costs to Switzerland.\n \nFunding and dura
 tion\nFunding amount: Swiss side\, max. 250’000 CHF / project (Japanese 
 side\, max. 10 million JPY / year)\nDuration: up to 36 months (earliest st
 art June 2019)\n \nDeadlines\nSubmission deadlines: pre-proposal\, June 1
 3th 2018\; full-proposal (upon invitation)\, November 28th 2018\nApplicati
 on: pre-proposals will be evaluated by the SNSF exclusively and should be 
 submitted only to the SNSF via mySNF.ch platform. Upon invitation\, full p
 roposals will be jointly evaluated and must be submitted to both SNSF and
