 of the simplest eukaryotic cell\, the fission yeast\, to dissect the molec
 ular controls of cellular asymmetries. I will present three short stories 
 on how haploid (gametic) cells efficiently pair with partners in complex e
 nvironments\, how they prepare for cell-cell fusion\, and how the now dipl
 oid zygote avoids fusing again to preserve genome integrity through meiosi
