DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
 gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Spinal Cord Inj
 ury Research Program (SCIRP) for 2018. The intent of the SCIRP Investigato
 r-Initiated Research Award is to support studies that have the potential t
 o make an important contribution to SCI research\, patient care\, and/or q
 uality of life. Important aspects of this award mechanism include:\n\n	Imp
 act: Applications should articulate both the short- and long-term impact o
 f the proposed research. Projects must address one or more of the FY18 SCI
 RP IIRA Focus Areas.\n	Military Relevance: Projects should be relevant to 
 spinal cord-injured military Service members\, Veterans\, and/or their fam
 ily members and caregivers. Collaboration with military and VA researchers
  and clinicians is encouraged.\n	Preliminary Data: Observations that drive
  a research idea may be derived from laboratory discovery\, population-bas
 ed studies\, a clinician’s first-hand knowledge of patients\, or anecdot
 al data. Applications must include preliminary and/or published data that 
 are relevant to the mission of the SCIRP and the proposed research project
 .\n\n \nTo meet the intent of the award mechanism\, all applications must
  address at least one or more of the FY18 SCIRP IIRA Focus Areas\, which a
 re listed at the end of this announcement.\n \nFunding: Maximum USD $ 500
 ’000\n \nEligibility: Applicants from international organizations or in
 stitutions are eligible to apply\, and there are no citizenship restrictio
 ns. Independent investigators at all academic levels are eligible to submi
 t applications.\n \nHow to Apply: Pre-applications are submitted through 
 the eBRAP platform. They should contain contact information\, a list of co
 llaborators and key personnel\, a proposal narrative\, and supporting docu
 ments as suggested on the platform. Full applications (by invitation) will
  be made via a Grants.gov workspace. Full application packages can be down
