DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
 gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Reconstructive 
 Transplant Research Program (RTRP) for 2018. The Concept Award supports th
 e exploration of a highly innovative new concept or untested theory that a
 ddresses an important problem relevant to reconstructive transplantation. 
 The Concept Award is not intended to support a logical progression of an a
 lready established research project\, but instead supports high-risk studi
 es that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigatio
 n. Though the RTRP Concept Award mechanism supports groundbreaking researc
 h\, all projects must demonstrate solid scientific rationale with military
 -relevant utility.\n \nThe RTRP challenges the scientific community to de
 sign innovative research that will foster new directions for\, and address
  neglected issues in\, the field of reconstructive transplantation\, speci
 fically vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA)-focused research\
 , also known as composite tissue allotransplantation. VCA refers to the tr
 ansplantation of multiple tissues such as muscle\, bone\, nerve\, and skin
 \, as a functional unit (e.g.\, a hand or face) from a deceased donor to a
  recipient with a severe injury. The ultimate goal is to return injured Se
 rvice members to duty and restore their quality of life.\n \nTo meet the 
 intent of the Concept Award mechanism\, applicants must address at least o
 ne of the FY18 RTRP Focus Areas. These focus areas are listed at the end o
 f this announcement.\n \nFunding: Maximum USD $ 200’000\n \nDuration: 
 18 months\n \nEligibility: Applicants from international organizations or
  institutions are eligible to apply\, and there are no citizenship restric
 tions. Investigators at or above the level of postdoctoral fellow (or equi
 valent) are eligible to be named as the PI on an application.\n \nHow to 
 Apply: Pre-applications are submitted through the eBRAP platform. They sho

 l\, a letter of intent\, and supporting documents as suggested on the plat
