DESCRIPTION:Dr. Yotam Harchol\nUniversity of California\, Berkeley \, USA\
nAbstract\nThe introduction of computational resources at the network edge
allows us to offload computation from clients and/or servers\, thereby re
ducing response latency\, backbone bandwidth\, and computational requireme
nts on clients. More fundamentally\, edge-computing moves us from a Client
-Server model to a Client-Edge-Server model. While this is an attractive p
aradigm for many applications\, it raises the question of how one can desi
gn such a Client-Edge-Server system to tolerate edge failures and client m
obility when the edge processing is stateful (e.g.\, the processing depend
s on state it has previously seen from the client and/or server). In this
talk we propose a design for meeting this challenge called Client-Edge-Ser
ver for Stateful Network Applications (CESSNA).\nJoint work with Aisha Mus
 htaq\, Murphy McCauley\, Marc Korner\, Aurojit Panda\, and Scott Shenker\n
\nBiography\nDr. Yotam Harchol is a postdoctoral scholar at the Universi
ty of California\, Berkeley\, where he works with Prof. Scott Shenker on v
arious networking and systems problems. Before joining UC Berkeley\, Yotam
has spent one year as a postdoctoral researcher at VMware Research\, focu
sing mainly on network security. Yotam holds Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees\, bot
h in Computer Science\, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, Israel\,
and a B.A. degree in Computer Science (magna cum laude) from IDC Herzliya
\, Israel. Yotam is the recipient of the Hans Wiener Prize for Excellent P
h.D Dissertation\, the Hebrew University Cybersecurity Research Center Pos
t-Doctoral Fellowship\, Intel Award for Graduate Students\, Hammer Fellows
hip for Graduate Students\, and the Chais Scholarship for Excellent Underg
 raduate Students.\n
