DESCRIPTION:Prof. Dr. Amador Vega\, Prof. Dr.\, CEO and Director Peter Wei
bel\, Prof. Dr. Siegfried Zielinski\nThe outstanding Catalan philosopher a
nd theologian Ramon Llull (c.1232–1316) encourages us to reread the late
Middle Ages. Llull\, not only theoretically and linguistically invented a
new method of knowledge acquisition\, like an engineer\, he also mechaniz
ed it\, and translated it into a machine.\n\nThe EPFL instance is curated
by: \n\n	Prof. Dr. Amador Vega\, (Universitat Pompeu Fabra\, Barcelona)\n
Prof. Dr.\, CEO and Director Peter Weibel (ZKM | Karlsruhe)\n	Prof. Dr. S
iegfried Zielinski (Berlin University of the Arts)\n\n\n\nLlull’s ars co
mbinatoria was a method based on divine intuition for generating truths by
means of a logical algebraic language. The method Llull invented was unive
rsal in its aspiration and\, introduced a modern way of learning. It postu
lated the unity of the various disciplines of knowledge of his day\, and t
hrough deduction\, argumentation\, and dialogue. The reverberations of Lul
lian thought on technology\, art and culture find their present-day coroll
ary in a pedagogical revolution which has “computational thinking” at
its core.\n\nIn “Thinking Machines” the realms of poetry\, literature
and art meet those of humanities and scientific research. The drivers that
brings this polymath\, thinker\, philosopher to the EPFL\, demonstrate th
e extent to which Ramon Llull's investigations and prolific production are
of profound relevance for our contemporaneity.\n\nRe-curated with the ZKM
(Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe).\nThis exhibition was originally con
ceived at the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona).\n\nEnt
