DESCRIPTION:Aim:  National Geographic supports the development of cutting
 -edge technologies that open our eyes to different viewpoints\, help us se
 e the world in a new light and explore it in new ways\, and transform the 
 fields of exploration\, science\, and conservation. The goal of this RFP i
 s to create novel tools and technologies to monitor ecosystem health. Exam
 ples include new processing techniques for satellite data\, advanced wildl
 ife camera traps\, or globally networked chemical and physical sensors.\n
  \nPriority will be given to projects that use technology to do one or mo
 re of the following:\n \n\n	Develop tools or capabilities needed to gener
 ate data and insights on ecosystem health\, biodiversity distribution\, pa
 tterns\, and trends\n	Create or reimagine sensing modalities that can be a
 pplied to determine ecological health\n	Implement new processing technique
 s that can apply breakthroughs in data mining and machine learning to glea
 n new ecosystem health insights from existing data streams\n	Develop low-c
 ost\, scalable\, long-term\, robust in-situ or remote sensing modalities\n
 \n \nFunding:       $150\,000\n \nEligibility: Applications from a
 round the world are accepted. If you are planning to work outside of your 
 home country or community\, you must include the name and contact informat
 ion for at least one local collaborator as a project team member in the ap
 plication. The individual responsible for carrying out the project should 
 apply and write the application. Students should not submit in their advis
 or’s name. As a result of changes in Chinese law effective January 1\, 2
 017\, the National Geographic Society is unable to support new grantee wor
