DESCRIPTION:Professor Paola Picotti\nProtein conformational changes induce
d by external perturbations or internal cues can profoundly influence prot
ein activity and thus modulate cellular physiology. Mass spectrometry (MS)
-based proteomic techniques are routinely used to measure changes in prote
 in abundance\, post-translational modification and protein interactors\, b
ut much less is known about alterations in protein structures.\nProf. Paol
a Picotti will present a recently developed structural proteomics method t
hat enables analysis of protein structural changes on a proteome-wide scal
e and directly in complex biological extracts. She will describe how the n
ew approach is used to study the molecular bases of protein aggregation di
seases and shed light on the in situ structures of aggregation-prone prote
ins. Further\, she will present an application of the approach to the iden
tification of protein-small molecule interactions\, including allosteric a
nd drug-target interactions. Last\, Prof. Paola Picotti will discuss the p
ower and limitations of the new approach and present her vision on the fut
 ure of proteomics.
