DESCRIPTION:Young investigators face a major challenge in the transition f
 rom postdoctoral/clinical fellow to their first tenured faculty position. 
 It is hard to gain significant and truly independent funding at this caree
 r stage\, yet such support is critical to advance up the academic ladder\,
  especially in Europe. Action is needed now to avoid a generation gap that
  would severely compromise future European excellence in diabetes research
 .\n \nThe EFSD/Novo Nordisk Foundation Future Leaders Award Programme is 
 intended to:\n\n	Identify outstanding clinical and basic scientists in Eur
 opean diabetes research at a critical stage in their career.\n	Support the
 m in their transition to a tenured academic appointment in diabetes resear
 ch in Europe.\n	Foster their development into the leaders of tomorrow.\n\n
  \nWho can apply:\n\n\n	and basic scientists.\n	Applicants must be employ
 ed at a non-profit institution in the EU or Associated Countries and shoul
 d provide clear evidence of their intention to pursue an academic career i
 n Europe.  \n	Have obtained a PhD or MD no more than 10 years before the
  start of the award. Exceptions for maternity/paternity/sick leave are tak
 en into account.\n	Have a track record of excellence and achievement in th
 eir chosen area of diabetes research.\n	Applicants to all EFSD programmes 
 must be paid-up members of EASD.\n\n\n\n	Applicants can hold only one EFSD
  award at a time.\n	There can be more than one EFSD award per lab\, but fo
 r separate projects.\n\n \nFunding & Duration:\n\n\n	DKK 5 million (~ EUR
  670’000) for 5 years (subject to satisfactory progress).\n	Eligible cos
 ts: part of the awardee’s salary\, personnel (technician or postdoctoral
  fellow) and direct research costs. Up to 5% of the grant can be used for 
 its administration (accounting\, controlling\, auditing\, reporting). No o
 verheads will be granted.\n	The budget must be prepared in DKK and it must
  mention the exchange rate.\n\n \nInternal deadline for Institutional Let
 ter of Support: 25 March 2019\nDeadline: 1 April 2019 at 18:00 (CET)\nDeci
 sion: July 2019. Four grants are awarded each year.\n \nFor further infor
